MAET Showcase
This page showcases several pieces of work that I have completed during my time in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. These assignments were selected because they influenced my beliefs as an educator or how I approach specific aspects of creating learning experiences for my students. Please feel free to read about my work and click on various links to view documents and other related resources. The content is organized under the categories of pedagogy, technology, and leadership.
Pedagogy
Online Course
Using the Course Management System (CMS) Canvas, I developed an online course for middle school students to participate both online and in person to learn about Ecology. The modules include a Learn, Explore, Create, and Check section and cover the topics of Organization of Ecosystems, Types of Interactions, and Human Impacts on Ecosystems. Students have the opportunity to explore informational resources such as CK-12 and YouTube to learn about the topic, then use a variety of online resources such as Padlet, AWWApp, Google Docs, Google Slides, and Piktochart to demonstrate their learning. During the in class sessions for this hybrid course students participate in several hands-on labs and group work collaboration to interact with the content material. |
Maker Lesson Plan
In this lesson, students incorporate collaborative problem solving, re-purposing, and a LittleBits kit to demonstrate their science knowledge and create a prototype model explaining the causes of the phases of the moon, eclipses, and seasons. Developing this lesson pushed my thinking by incorporating several resources, but through creating the prototype myself I was able to experience the lesson from a student perspective and saw firsthand how being a "maker" can impact the learning experience. You can read more about this lesson plan on my blog post. |
Assessment Design Checklist
Developing an assessment design checklist allowed me to identify five key questions to ask myself as I design assessments for my students. This allowed me to understand just how important feedback is in the process of learning and that collaboration with students is essential to their understanding of their progress and understanding. |
Technology
Networked Learning Project
Through watching only YouTube videos I was able to learn basic HTML code that allowed me to create my own website. This learning process allowed me to push myself to learn a skill that I had never set aside time to learn and showed me the value of learning resources on the Internet. You can read about my learning journey and view my web page creation through the following blog posts: First Blog Post, Progress Update Blog Post, and Final Blog Post. |
21st Century Lesson Plan
As 21st century educators, we should be preparing our students for the future by helping them develop their collaboration and problem solving skills so that they can apply their learning to real-world issues. In this middle school science lesson, students have the opportunity to explore the impacts of invasive species and analyze current solutions being used to minimize their impact while utilizing technology to research as well as present their learning. To read more about this lesson, refer to my original blog post. |
Leadership
Redesigning my Learning Space
As the leader in my classroom, determining the best way to utilize space and maximize student engagement and learning in my class is key. Using the program SketchUp, I was able to create a model of my current classroom with revisions to the learning space. To learn more about my re-imagined learning space including reasons behind my decisions read my blog post. |

Addressing Thorny Issues
In leadership positions, individuals often have to address thorny issues where stakeholders may have strong opinions regarding their resolution which requires the leader to guide everyone to work toward a solution. I wrote a memo and talking points for a staff meeting on the topic of flipped learning that includes resources to share with the staff. |
Plan Technology Professional Development Session
As an MAET graduate, leading a professional development (PD) session is one way that I can share my knowledge with my peers. The Planning Document outlines a PD session that I could present to my staff as well as slides to support their learning and serve as a resource to refer back to and share. I may want to pursue a position as a technology coordinator for a school in the future and this PD session would be exemplary of the type of work I would develop in order to assist teachers in technology integration in their classroom. |
